Excel Net Worth Tracker

Keeping track of your net worth isn't just for vanity.

Knowing where you stand financially is important for planning for the future.

Preparing for retirement, a vehicle purchase, a home purchase, or any other significant financial undertaking requires you to know where you stand.

I created this workbook to track my own net worth and asset value, and now I'm sharing it with you.

What This Workbook Does

Adding up the value of all your assets isn't a complicated endeavor.

However, the power of this spreadsheet is in keeping historical net worths and their associated assets and quickly representing them visually.

In this workbook, the only area you interact with is the left side, where there is a table of Accounts and Values.

If you update your values, add accounts, delete accounts, etc. on a new day, a new record will be created in the table to the right, and the graph will update.

If you update your values on the same day as the last entry (i.e., edit multiple accounts in one day), that record simply updates without adding a new record.

You can always see your latest net worth at the top of the sheet.

Another powerful feature of this workbook is viewing assets that were included in previous net worths.

You can see this in action in the second image above (hit the right arrow to view it).

By hovering over a previous net worth, you can see that net worth, the date it was created, and all of the accounts and values that existed at that time.

What to Include in Your Net Worth

Your net worth should include all of your assets.

Such as:

• Investments
• Cash savings
• Retirement accounts
• Real estate

It should not include these items:

• Vehicles (depreciation)
• Electronics (depreciation)
• Primary residence (you can't liquidate it and still have somewhere to live)

However, how you manage your finances is up to you. If you want to include the above items, more power to you.
